Increase screening for bowel cancer in Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest Council's Public Health are launching a campaign to promote the uptake of bowel cancer screenings in our borough.

If you are aged 50+, you can get a bowel cancer screening kit.

Get involved in the campaign

The Public Health team are looking for people in their 50s and 60s from a mix of ethnic backgrounds who have used at least one bowel cancer screening kit. You would need to feel comfortable speaking on camera about the importance of bowel cancer screening and your experience of it. This will only take 15 minutes.

In exchange for your time, you will receive a £25 Choose Local gift voucher. If you might be interested, please fill out this form and they will get in touch soon.

Why is bowel cancer screening important?

Bowel cancer is the 3rd most common type of cancer, and it can affect anyone. Screening can help prevent bowel cancer or find it at an early stage when it's easier to treat. This is why it's important that anyone that receives a bowel cancer screening kit uses it.

  • Details of how to use the kit can be found on the NHS website in a range of languages.

Screening kits are now available for anyone aged 50+ and will be sent to residents’ homes every two years from age 50 to 74.

  • Those who think they have not received a kit but should have, or who may have misplaced theirs, they can order a new one using this form.
  • Only those registered with a GP will automatically be sent a kit, so we’d recommend registering if not already and/or checking postal addresses are correct.
  • Those aged 75 and over can request a kit every 2 years themselves by calling the freephone number 0800 707 60 60.
