Delays to Whipps Cross redevelopment

The Government have announced a significant delay to the redevelopment of Whipps Cross hospital.

The Government announcement on the New Hospital Programme placed Whipps Cross hospital in wave 2 with an expected start to construction of 2032 to 2034 with a cost estimate of £1 billion to £1.5 billion.

Barts Health NHS Trust responded that "a significant delay to the redevelopment is deeply disappointing for Whipps Cross Hospital, our staff, and the local people we serve."

We are very concerned about the impact of the delay and the uncertainty that will bring to local people in Waltham Forest (as well as those from parts of Redbridge and Epping Forest district) who use the hospital.  Initially, the new hospital was expected to be completed by 2026.  Construction of the first of two multi-storey car parks will be completed later this year.
