A&E blood tests save lives

Barts Health perform routine opt-out blood tests for all patients aged over 16 who have blood taken at any one of their Health's A&E including Whipps Cross. They are automatically tested for blood borne viruses (BBV) - HIV and hepatitis B and C - unless you opt-out.

In 2024, 170,759 patients were tested with over 300 testing positive for one of the BBVs.

One patient called Kelvin tested positive for hepatitis C and further tests identified liver cancer.  Read his story here.
